InstaFibre Mineral Wool – V’s - EPS Polystyrene Beads?
InstaFibre Mineral Wool Cavity Wall Insulation is certified by National Standards Association of Ireland (NSAI)
InstaFibre is installed at a target mean density of 20 Kg/m3 to a pre-determined drilling pattern as setout by NSAI, BBA and InstaFibre. Once installed correctly, InstaFibre is certified not to settle, or shrink, in a wall. Obviously, it is up to the installer to get the installation correct. We at Connolly Insulation can offer a full 25 year guarantee on cavity wall insulation. This guarantee is fully backed by InstaFibre.
InstaFibre is always installed up to the very top of gable walls. InstaFibre is supplied in 16.6Kg bags - Each of which has a 7 digit serial number. We record this number for every bag used per job. We can, and regularly are, checked by NSAI and InstaFibre to see that we use correct amount of bags per job – We can determine the amount of bags required by examining the cavity width and net wall area.
We carry out a ‘box test’ at the start of any project to determine the actual on-site densities achieved. Every batch load of material will have a slightly different make-up and adjusting the air-flow (of the blowing machine) will allow us hit desired density in wall.
Polystyrene Beads can not be installed in a cavity wall that has existing electrical cables that are not in a conduit. We note form site visits that c 50% of existing housing stock has main ESB cable not in a conduit. InstaFibre has no issue with been installed around unprotected cables. Electrical Cables can be affected in two ways when Polystyrene Beads are pumped into a cavity wall. The beads can cause the electrical cable to melt - This is a fire hazard. Polystyrene can give off toxic smoke upon combustion. The second problem with electrical cables, (that are unprotected in a cavity) is that polystyrene can interact with the chemical composition of cable and thus reduce the flexability of the cable - The cable's can become rigid and break in the cavity.
InstaFibre Mineral Wool is installed directly from the factory-packed bags, via the insulation blowing machine, direct into the cavity. There is no possibility for errors associated with having to mix glue into the insulation
We, at Connolly Insulation, can provide you with an InstaFibre 25 year guarantee on cavity wall insulation.
The image belwo shows an electrical cable that has been removed from a cavity that contains pumped Polystyrere Beads. As can be seen, the beads have eaten into the outer casing of the cable, and bare wire has even become exposed.
